Pine Mountain Wildlife
Numerous animal species, both small and large, have taken refuge from the outside world, along the Pine Mountain Corridor. Forest floor dwelling salamanders, millipedes, spiders, moths, beetles and snails flourish here as nowhere else on earth. Ideal microclimates have driven record diversity of amphibians and reptiles as well as their predators. Birds and mammals thrive amidst the relative seclusion afforded by the inaccessible conditions common to Pine Mountain. While it is customary to see grouse, turkey, and deer, vigilance against an encounter with a black bear is never far from a hiker’s thoughts.
